I bought a C Class sport coupe last October. It was three years old and mint condition.

I say "was" as I've just kerbed the wheel a large chunk of the paint/coating has come off. It was just a low-speed parking mistake; I'm amazed how down I feel about it all!

My question is - has anyone got any recommendations regarding alloy wheel repairs? The car has the panoramic sport evo pack with the satin/chrome wheels and are slightly "mirrored". The paint that came off wasn't scraped off - it seemed to have cracked and lifted off, and the rim itself is undamaged. Does this sound like a repair that a standard wheel prepair shop could do?

Poor you I know how you must feel, There is only one firm in the uk that can fix it to new, that is Pristine Wheels,Northampton. they do all of MB's wheels. I have diamond cut wheels, and they did mine, they collect and deliver.

Rock the Casbar..... a fellow Goth and Punk appreciator?

Avoid kwik-fit or any other 'mickey mouse' garage, as they knock on balance weights, which create the same effect. I used snow chains, and this did the same....

Merc-Care in Leeds, their paintshop partners just behind them, re-faced and laquered all 4 wheels for me, at 250squid.

as to KF and other tyre specialists and knock on balance weights - just insist they use stickies - never had a problem really so long as you make it totally clear you dont want knock on weights - i normally watch them while they work which 'sometimes' upsets the manager  but i usually have to come and loosen the wheel bolts on my Volvo 850 as they cant get them off with their impact wrenches or wheel spyders  - i have one of these extending 'ladies' wheel braces  great piece of kit.

Honestly if you have them that tight be carefull you are not stretching the bolts / studs. I don't mind my tyre dealer using the air wrench to take them off, but he always uses a spinner and torque wrench to put them back on.
Tights tight, too tights f****D, is the expression

they are not tight but b%%%%y tight BUT they are/were not overtightened they are torqued to the right Ft/lbs - but they are a positive pain to come off - my first experience was having a puncture and the AA/RAC man failing to get the wheel off - after that incident i bought the extending wheel brace........maybe it is just the wimps that KF and others employ now but it is fun for this 'old' man to show them how to get the wheels off:rolleyes: :D This is not the Merc but the Volvo i haven't had the pleasure of removing the Merc's wheels yet - must do that soon if only to totally clean the wheels and polish them inside to keep the brake dust at bay.

Sort of - I'll listen to any style of music as long as there's talented musicians involed. Metallica to Marc Cohn. Dire Straits to Stevie Wonder.

Getting a bit off-topic, here. Thanks for all your help, everyone - I've sent an email to Pristine for details (thanks again, TV).
I will look for firms a bit closer to Southampton as well as I can't be without the car for the five days it'll take to send it to Pristine by courier.

Wouldn't be so bad if I had a full size steel spare...
