I had whining from the top idler pulley on my M272 just before it gave up the ghost completely. Changed it and it was quite, until the tensioner started making a noise a week later. Changed that as well and all good since

You sprayed wd40 on the actual serpentine belt?????.... oh dear.

Wd will do nothing to shot pully bearings.

you need to take the belt off and check each pully for play/noise and replace accordingly.

The tensioner may be shot and its a few bolts but not easy to access depending on the engine/car.

If it's original change it. It let go, M272, with no warning and shredded the belt and wrapped it's self round
the crank shaft between pulley and block causing more problems. Should be service item, 10 years/100K miles.

Serpentines are actually checked at service time and advised if a change is required.

Definately agree on the 10 years, and since its been sprayed in WD40 and will need to come off to check the pullies - it will need changing now.

Take off the belt (after noting how it goes round the pulleys) and start the engine (only run briefly).
No noise then it's a pulley.
Spin each by hand feeling for roughness. If it feels rough you have your culprit.

Service item 10 years 100K miles, it actually let go at around 80K miles.
You will be surprised how small the bearing is.

A stethoscope on a rotating pulley. Hows that work then.

Take pictures of how the belt is in. remove it. lots of vids on you tube.

Spin each pully by hand. should be no noise. Grapple each pully. There should
be no play.

they are easy to change if you are able (limited space) make sure you have the torque setting for the bolts and get a new belt and clean all those pulleys.

like said - loads of info on you tube.
