Hello all. I have made the decision to buy an SL55 later this month. I wondered if someone (perhaps Helen) could point me in the right direction for making my choice. I will be buying from a MB dealer, so a good warranty will be with the car.
Are there any things I should be looking out for. And should there be certain options ie. parktronic, that must be included. I notice the vast majority are silver. Is that the best colour?
Thanks for reading folks. And if you know of a good one for sale 30-36k.....

Silver seems to be the most popular colour for MBs, so it is probably the "best" for a private resale, with black a close second. However it is also the most boring. Go for red! (Or tansanite blue - I've never even seen a blue SL, but it looks good on other Mercs.) Why pay £70k for a car that looks like everyone else's?

Only go for black if you've lots of time on your hands for polishing. Silver is definitely the "low maintenance" choice.

Quite wide at 30 - 60K. I'd hold out for a facelift last of line 55 as they are near that level now. The facelift looks nice with a new choice of 5 spoke wheel and iirc the engine has a bit more oomph which of course the old model lacks..........My experience when looking at these last year was that there are plenty to choose from but many seem to be poverty spec. Some people didn't tick any boxes when new it seems. I'd go for black on black with AMG type 4 wheels, or the new 5 spokes on the facelift. I don't like the pan roof but that's a personal thing. Then just make sure it has every other option going. Bramley have a cracker for sale right now in fact.

I reckon the way things are you could get the black one or the silver one for way under 60 grand. Both are facelift cars and amazing value when you think that 2 years ago someone paid over 100 grand.

I should also add that the guys at Bramley are great to deal with. We bought a 911 there a few years ago. The cars they have on display are awesome and they don't mind you just having a mooch about.

Good choice JanusRolex. You won't regret it (apart from when you are repeatedly pulling into petrol stations). I certainly wasn't going to have a silver one as they're far too common (no offence Malcolm) and was waiting for a black one, but, when I saw a tansanite blue one that was it. Not anywhere so common, nice colour and you're not continually polishing, although it is nearly as bad as black. Whatever you do do not buy a red one, you'll never get rid later. The best colours are silver, black and blue for holding their value.

As for any problems, as long as you have a good warranty it really doesn't matter does it, because they all get fixed. Well, that's my reasoning anyway.

Actually Stumpy the price range is 30-36k. But if you wanna sub me the odd 24k, I am happy to go along with your price range. Seriously though. The best I am looking at is a 2003 with all the extras and a 2 year warranty from MB. It is in Tellur silver with anthracite leather. Does that comby sound ok!

Silver & black is the classic combination - bit boring though.

MB SW have a superb 2004 with a high spec in blue with cream inside 17k miles at £37 could be bought much cheaper with no PX its the nicest one that I have seen.

The telur blue is a pig when it comes to painting damage and cannot be matched well, and looks odd in certain lights

I am assuming it is the one at MB Exeter. If it is it has the alpaca grey interior too!

Malcolm. I know there is a Russian site that you can find all the extras that the car had fitted when new. I wonder if you could check out reg no. GR03HNH for me. And come back with your opinion as regards to specifications please.
