i have a 1983 mercedes 300d turbo it is having a fuel problem. some how my fuel pump loses its prime when im not revving it higher then a grand. if its not already to operating temp i have to rev its for a long time for it to even hold a shaky idle i know they don't do good in the cold but she used t start fine if i had her on the block heater. it has new filters all around. when im driving it it will get to 25 and try to shift and slowly die on me. any help or ideas is appreciated

All I can think of is any air in the system, and this could be on the return to tank pipes

Hi,
I had a fuel problem with my 250 TD 1989 - turned out the strainer in the tank was blocked up. Mine is a wagon so not sure if this would apply to your car or not.

Symptom was that it would run Ok for a while but then no fuel or very little would get through - I posted a photo of the strainer after I took it out.

Temporary fix could be to blow back through the fuel lines, but this just blows the detritues back into the tank. The fuel strainer is the fuel pipe on the same side of the filler cap; remove this and the strainer is above it. I would flush out your tank as well.
