and here it is.
Ever since we got our SL, the c/c has been bugging me. accelerates fine, slows down fine, sets fine, but won't cruise for more than 5 secs, and won't resume w/o going through the sound barrier.
I thought it must be the amplifier brain, as these have , ahem, been known to go wrong.
I found this site in the USA which lists all kinds of part numbers when I was looking for replacements http://www.programainc.com/doc/M-Benz.html.

From it I sort of cunningly worked out which alternate part nos would do, as every time I looked for an SL brain, the price seemed astronomical. I bought a brain, and stalk from e-bay from a w124 300D, for reasonable money. I then disconnected the SL's brain, coupled up this one and went for a run.
Presto......no chango. From that I can deduce it's not the brain which is at fault, but something else in the system, probably the stalk or the throttle linkage.

So if anyone else has a dodgy c/c, and can identify from the link above which part nos will fit, german e-bay is full of these things . You can also make me an offer for mine (I'll be keeping the stalk). All you need is the code plug to transfer from your unit to this one, as it came w/out one, and I'm also keeping mine.

Good luck ( offers around £35 accepted, and I'll even post it in the UK for that) part no 005 545 0532 412/212/1/1

Out of interest, what wheel and tyre sizes are you running on your SL?

I have come across other people that have had similar issues with cruise control not functioning properly on W140's & R129's (although such a problem would effect all cars though) when they had upgraded to larger wheels...

If your car has always done this it could be that the previous owner had upgraded the wheels.

If you post what type & size of wheels / tyres you have that may help. However if they are standard (i.e. 17" or 16") I may be off on a tangent!

I'm on 15 in 7j 205/60s, all round , which have the same effective rolling diameter of the stock 14 in 195/70s.

I'm going to whip the air cleaner off and have a shufti at all the links in the throttle end of the equation. If that doesn't shed any light, I'm going to have to learn to live with it.
