My step dad is unfortunatly in Whitechapel hospital at the moment quite badly ill, and is expected to be in there for some time. On visiting him there the other day he asked me if i wouldnt mind taking his cars out for a run every now and then as he hates them sitting there "Rotting Away" as he put it. As you can imagine i was like a kid on Christmas day. He has a couple of cars. A 1955 Ford Zephyr Six..bench seat, column change, the works...such an experience to drive a car from that era...oh how we take power steering and electric window wipers for granted!

However his other car is a D reg (old D that is...1967?? ive gone blank!) MB 230SL Auto. Its got the hard top that you can remove and store. What a car that is...Chrome everywhere inside and out, huge steering wheel with loads of power assistance, seamless gear changes, and an exhaust note emerging from twin chrome tail pipes most boy racers would die for.

It is so true what they say......"They dont make em like they used to". Boy i wish they did though. If you ever have a chance to drive one of these or something similar dont you dare say no!!!!

Following on from that, if you do get a chance to drive one, take a good look at the gear selector before you speed off up the road......they are back to front, ie Park is where 2 would be on a modern MB. Takes a bit of getting used to. Also Neutral is denoted by an O..anyone know what this stands for?

Nice one Fuzzer!!

Matt.

Can't say what the "O" stands for, but i can say that i worked on grand old Fords like that as an apprentice, (swing that lamp!!)........and in the case of that marque, they certainly don't make them like they used to!!
