I was warned about the problems selling on ebay.

Further to my questions on the best place to sell I thought I would update on what has occured. I was stung on ebay on Sunday afternoon.
Everything was going well till 7 seconds before the end, £250 selling to a guy in London when £255 comes in from someone with terrible feed back who will not respond to any form of communication. I have e-mailed and phoned but I've had no joy.
I'll have to put it down to experience, get my money back from ebay and try again in the new year. I really wanted everything sorted before Christmas Oh well, I'd already spent the money in my head on a new hood for the 107.

The strange thing was I had over 1000 views and 50+ watchers and only one person asked me a question.

Any feed back on the ad or suggestions for next time, please drop me a line.

Regards

Neill:(

cant see a 280ce which auction ended on sunday so dont know what the circumstances surrounding the bidding was. I have experience on this sort of thing, going on all the time, mostly on mobile phones but anything which could attract a good return, expecially if the winning bidder doesn't pay for it. Email me if you wish, thwe item number would help....

Well, looking at the feedback rating there are almost as many negatives as positives. He wishes to remain private, which is curious, not what I have come across before but very suspicious. If he doesnt respond to further contact I think you can ignore his bid and use the "second chance offer" option to the next highest bidder. (Check on ebay rules but, as a seller, you should be able to decide who to sell to. Unfortunately, sellers have no protection from fraud so it's up to you.) He/she looks a better risk but make sure that you have the money, greenbacks, in your hand before you let the car out of your site.

Too true on the greenbacks.
Might try the 2nd chance offer.

Also note that the winning bidder was originally registered as being in S Lanarkshire......and now London? Strange!

It all suggests a dodgy deal.........

Best of luck and if you find any real evidence of a dodgy buyer, report it to ebay. It is a little difficult to get through but keep trying. Also ebay forums are pretty good at identifying scams and ways to avoid them..

Offer the next highest bidder a 2nd chance.

And if you auction it again, restrict it to 'pre-approved bidders'

Sell to the second highest bidder.

Yep or relist

it does happen but not very often and its not like you lose anything as ebay refund the listing fee.

I've had it once in around 150 dealings, way better than going the auto trader route and having to put up with incessant phone calls

2nd Chance offer applies....give him an email to see if he still wants it at his priginal bid.

Its such a shame when this happens on Ebay as there are 10000 plus good transaction happens every day but no-one gets to hear about them, its just like 1 idiot transaction that everyone harps on about and quite rightly so!!

Good luck, hope you 2nd chance offer man comes off!!

Hi Supercue

"its just like 1 idiot transaction"

Fortunately for most sections on ebay it is and I agree with what you go on to say..

"everyone harps on about and quite rightly so!!"

Sadly, there are specific sales areas which have been targeted in the last few weeks, namely mobile phones. That's where I got stung, my own fault for being naive in believing a quite believable story and a very convincing email, but I won't go in to that....

Big problem is that the ebay sellers of mobile phones are now wise to the scammers and other areas of ebay sales are being targeted.

The targets are first time sellers of items which are fairly easily disposed of.

Now, ask me how a 280 CE could be considered easily disposed of....... I can't answer that question, maybe the scammers are getting desperate to clean up for Christmas?

Just everyone beware 'cos it seems to be big business, the email I mentioned earlier was VERY clever.. it was supposedly from a very reputable source, a secure payment organisation, but "ding dong"........not from them, so I have learnt from the experience and hope all members of this forum will do the same.

best regards to all and a very merry Christmas dougC.............

I've bought things on eBay from sellers that were listed as private, but I had no problems with the deals at all. One private seller I bought a flashing dog collar from was suddenly no longer a registered user the day after I won the auction and I was worried I had lost my money, but the goods did arrive.

Don't forget the only way to check if you are on a secure site, is in the address bar at the top. When you enter the secure part it will say
