Model is 2004 Mercedes Benz 200clk. 1796 supercharged engine. Type 271940.
I’ve just dropped the oil and filter, as I’ve done religiously each 9000 for nigh on twelve years. I’d noticed that there is/was an occasional tinkling or rattling sound from the front of the motor at idling speed. There are six pulleys at the front, a rapidly revolving supercharger amongst them. The supercharger was replaced 30000 ago. The motor is chain driven dohc, located at the front, inside the engine cases. Car has done 120000. It’s been driven like an old lady would; It goes great for a petrol. Can get up to 45mpg on a run, and regularly 35+ around town/countryside. Burns no oil, plug chop last month showed perfect mixtures.
Could someone offer an opinion on the source of the noise please.
Regards
