idle conrol valve

Hi guys,
I have a 190e on a G plate(1990), and have an idle problem.

When cold starting the old girl cuts out a few times and will only run if accelorator is applied. Have read various threads on both this and other sites, it seems to be a common problem, but what is the answer?
