my question is this can the outside temperature sensor have an affect on idling?

I have checked vacuum hoses, plugs ,leads and everything assosiated, but still have a rough idle on startup, the temp display in the clocks has only ever shown a temp once and it read -34c . Its an E200 2.0 litre w210 estate.

any input would be greatly appreciated thanks Phil.

It could be a sensor causing the fault

in the link you could take off 008,014 and 023 or short them or ground via a 1k resistor and see. You can measure them cold and a rough indication they would be around 4-5k ohm at this time of the year and dropping to say 1k ohm when hot,, this is a rough indication only, but would prove the point.

The outside temp gauge fault has nothing to do with this.
