Hi,
I am having real problems keeping my 280 SEL idleing when its hot. When I say hot I mean if the car has been idleing stationary for a long time, or I have been stuck in traffic for a while.
The gauge sits at just above 80, and I have had a new rad, & water pump fitted. It only happens as soon as I put it into drive or reverse!! I'm having to drive 2 footed !! If I'm about to stop, I have to put it quickly into neutral and rev the engine and then it will idle until I select a gear again!! Can anybody help?

Thanks,
Peter

You don't say about how easy it is to restart after it has stalled. I thought of fuel vaporisation or idle too low but it's hard to guess from here. What is the idle CO value? Sounds like a problem that a good service will sort out.

It re-starts very easily, and I just got an MOT last week, and they said that the emissions were fine, and quite low. Even after driving in traffic and having this stalling problem, if I go onto a motorway for a couple of miles, and the engine cools down very slightly, then its fine again.
Needless to say I never have this problem in the winter or at night. I just don't know what to check next.
