My SL320, 1996 popped fuse 15 and imobilised itself. Quick fuse replacement got it going but in limp home mode.
Visit to local "experts" who dissconected the battery fixed that but since then its run 1000 revs to high and misses around the 2-3000 rev area and cruise doesnt work. Uual drama with getting the hard top release, windows and roll bar to work in harmony.

Its just spent 2 weeks with the Merc dealer (£3000 quote) who stripped all the throttle gear and plugged an air leak, fixed rodent damage but reported that everything was Ok so must be the ECU.

So, had that serviced (ECU Doc in Plymouth, very nice chap) who report back that it wasnt bust!!!!

So its all back together and still not working properly.

I'm £700 out of pocket and now lost for ideas.

Anyone any suggestions?

When the OVP relay is faulty it will idle High, have you checked it.

Just to clarify on this a little.

Your engine has nothing to do with the roof or windows, so if all of these things are wrong it has to be a common problem.

If the voltage drops below the 12.5 volt nominal voltage the engine ECU goes into the safety mode and increases the revs to 1k there abouts.

The relay is in the boot just in front of the battery with a fuse on top. Pin 30 is the input and pins 87 are the out put. you must have 12 volt on this pin.

Hope this is the problem Malcolm

My SL has now developed a terminal tractor like noise and couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. Anyone know a reputible expert in Gloucestershire or surrounds??

This cars been poorly for 5 months now and the local experts seem baffled.
