Idle speed too high?

My W220 seems to idle at around 800 RPM, according to some of my research this seems a little on the high side. The car runs perfectly if perhaps a little jerky on the overrun sometimes but otherwise no issues. Its used daily to run to work and back around 70 miles.

Should I worry about this, how do you change the idle speed is it a job of hooking it up to star to sort it?

Is it a Deisel? Deisel usualy idle at around 600-700rpm. so 800rpm does seem high. Is it always idleing at that or only when you start in the morning?

As Malcolm suggested have it checked on STAR

No its petrol and the idle speed is around 750-800 after a run when the engine is properly warmed up.

Then much to high and will not do the drive chain any good when going from D to R , 650 would be better

Ok Malcolm, and this can only be rectified by booking it in to get hooked up on STAR?

An indie with STAR is the best bet and will not cost much

Does it not have an adjustable idle control valve? I know most cars now you adjust them and the ecu ends up re-adjusting it back to where you don't want it! lol.

My car currently idles at 1500-1700rpm... hasn't done my two gearboxes any good.. taken throttle bodies off, reconditioned them but couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to fix it.. car was bolts short all over the place.. I'm breaking the car for spares now anyway because I found another in much better condition :)

Quick update

I took it to my local indi on Friday to be hooked up on STAR. He spent some time looking at various things and reported that there was no problem with the car at all, and that the idle speed was within normal parameters. Always good to get hooked up on STAR as he confirmed that there are no other faults on the car which puts my mind at rest!

Still seems a bit high though but as its been checked and there are no faults I am not going to worry about this right now.

On most cars the idle is 700 rpm + or - 50 rpm

Just remember, idle speed and rev. counter reading may not be the same, diagnostic will give correct reading, Correct idle for this engine is 680-830, so no problem.
