Hi
I have a high idle, the idle valve opens, (disconnect increases speed) but I suspect does not close (although the controller could be stuffed.
The valve is sucking somthing awful, if I disconnect the pipe from the valve to the cold injector there is a lot of sucking and the engine dies immediatly. Is this normal?
Also the bypass pipe is sealed at one end, can this be normal?
The engine will not start with the valve physically blocked so I do not suspect leaks elsewhere.
Anybody got any suggestions, I have ordered some s/hand spares but would like any opinions incase I fit them and nothing changes!!!!

Hi,

The bypass pipe should not be sealed at one end as far as I am aware - as then it is not a bypass pipe !

The idle air valve is most likely faulty and not closing fully - you could try cleaning it out with carb cleaner, although this very rarely sloves the problem.

It could be the idle control relay if you have one on your car.

You need to check the voltage at the idle control valve pins to see if the idle control relay is sending the right signals.

Hi
The pipe looks like it was profesionally blocked, it is crimped by a heat process and does not look like a home job. Dpoesnt make sense. Has anyone had one out on a 420 recently?
I have checked the voltage, it appears to be correct.
The idle speed is about 1000.
Cold injector appears to be okay (idle speed same when pipe connecting removed. O2 sensor relay system okay?
Any thing else I could have missed?
Thanks

Why does this sound so familliar? I have exactly the same problem on my 380 and have ordered a new thermo time switch. Hopefully this will do the job. Mine is idling on 1000 too and I have replaced the idle computer already. The air valve works fine and I have been testing with another one.

Talbir has been a great help so far and hopefully after replacing this part everything will be fine!
