idling problem after battery change

Please can anyone help me? My car C180 (1994) not idling since I changed the battery. It starts quite alright but as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator it dies on me

i suspect it needs boot strapping, offen happens on the 202,s 210,s and 170,s after battery been replaced, need a good indi or dealer to correct!!! oh and welcome to the site!!!!

Same thing happened on my e220. The AA man said the car can take a while to "accept" a new battery and would be OK after a day or two. I thought he was fobbing me off but 3,000 miles later the problem has not come back.
