There is nothing average about a driving trip to the North of Scotland. If you head up to Applecross and that sort of area, it is like Lord of the Rings country and amazing roads

I can recommend the car train from Calais to Nice and then cruising the French and Italian riviera around to Pisa, from there to Torre de Banaco on lake Garda, up past Innsbruck to the Neuschwanstein castle (as in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) in Bavaria then through to Arras in France and back to Calais. With beautiful scenery beaches restaurants and bars we had a very restful time staying at these places and used the car for what it was built for - top down, shades on sunshine!
Cheers

Completely agree! i did applecross (Bealach na Ba !) in a 1989 Carerra. great fun (mind u, it was covered in mist, and i cou;dnt see a ****** thing!). love it round there. Even approaching scoltand, theres terrific roads. The A7 from Carisle to Edinb. is fantastic. Love to press a button, and be there on sunday mornings for a quick 2 hr blast. Unfortuntately.. to get there i have to endure 8rs of the M1    The torridon mountains etc, glencoe etc etc , it's all great fun for driving. I would go there once a year, but family comes first.

Did you eat at Applecross? I was there a few times in the summer with the roof down. Lots of motorbikes go up there as well. Thankfully living in Edinburgh, it is not too far. I did the carlisle to Edinburgh road twice last week but it was below freezing so was pretty cautious
