Mercedes 300CE 24v. Occasionally (twice today) after driving to a place, the car will not turn over on the ignition switch. I can hear, perhaps, the solenoid working but the engine will not attempt to fire. Leave it for about a half to one hour and it starts firing again. The second time it occurred today was at a knowledgeable motor factor's establishment. He checked that the battery was ok (‘stonking’ was the word used), that it was charging, and tried a portable charging machine but to no avail.
This is very annoying, to say the least. It happened last weekend, and over several years, a further two times. I thought that it may have been the battery because it was always on a hot day, in slow moving traffic, after using the electric windows or air conditioning. Last week’s incident was after a brisk run on the M25, approximately 30 miles with only the air conditioning on and of course, the obligatory ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ on the CD player.
Can anyone help? Annoying is a mild word to describe it.
