Ignition fault

I have a 1998 SL280 with an annoying fault, i turn on the ignition switch and nothing lights up on the dash board after many attampts everything lights up and away she goes has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, could be a worn ignition barrel, the key does not correctly align, a failing IES taking its time to recognise the key.
Sure that better and probably correct answers will turn up.
