Help please !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My 1996 250 d elegance is once again dumped in a side street miles from home!!!!!!!!!!! problem started with running rough (was advised to change fuel fillter and air fillter) I did this and car seemed to be better, then as I was driving along it would just cut out without warning, if i repeatedly tried to start it it would finally start, chug like a bag of trash fill the road with smoke then run ok, if i left it for 5 mins would start first ime ,no prob, and run ok, (always seems to hunt a bit at around 1500 rpm)today it shut down , I gave it the regulation 5 mins, it started , and off I went for about 2 miles. it stopped again and refused to start, I noticed that when I disarmed the alarm/immobiliser and turned the ignition on, the red and green lights on my interior mirror where flashing alternatly, I disconnected the battery , left it for a good hour or so, reconnected and tried again same problem, as before, turned off again but when I went to turn the key it wont turn gear shift is in park (well I cant move it any other position ) just feel like taking a sledge hammer to it any advise will be greatfully recieved as I love the old car (cant afford to get the dealership involved) If I do manage to get it going is there a way of dissarming the imobiliser thanks in advance Martyn

As you have disconnected the battery I think you may have to reprogramme the key again, there should be some threads on here regarding reprogramming the key. try searching key reprogramming, also search for alarm immobiliser problems..

If the alarm has been disconnected, the system may not recognise it now without re syncing, I also think that the battery is now very low and this can take away stored data.

I think that as Bolide says its the only way now
