Hi,
Did Mercedes quote the price from your chassis number as i think he has quoted you for the later key your key is less than £100.
I,m very sceptical that this locksmith can do what he says he can with your flip out key as i believed the alarms fitted were anti-scan, anti-grab proof as part of Thatcham certification. I hope that i,m wrong and you get your key sorted would interested to know the result.

hi all . just hoping one of you out there can help me. i'm after another key for my 1997 sl. it's got a flip out key mercedes say it'll be about 120 pounds. i've spoken to a locksmith who says he can do some of them but theres 2 types as he's about 25 miles away does any one know how to tell which is which. thanks in advance for any help

Your locksmith may be able to do the key blade, but not the remote part

he assures me he can. they now have a box that reads the chip in your old key and copies it onto your new one. one type costs 45 the other is dearer think he said 80 just curious if i can find out which one mine is before i get a chance to get over there
