What is so special about the 500 SE on a 1985 plate ? I need a new set of ignition leads as some of mine are no longer connecting correctly and I have been quoted any where from £76 -£120 !!!!! Is there anyway of re furbishing mine to make them connect again ?

If not does anyone have some spare

about £10 a lead is the normal asking price

I changed all the leads on our same vintage 500 SL, £75 from Eurocarparts. At least 6 of the old ones are ok, if shabby. I've still got them in the garage somewhere. Send me a pre-paid , self-addressed large jiffy bag for about 500 gram's worth of weight and they are yours for the asking. You'll have to PM me for my address.

I thought i recalled that "from £38.50" as per Euro catalogue is a long way from the mark.

Solving problem of high idle and total ignition failure as on thread "coughs and Splutters". Car in for a tune at moment but Mechie suggested new leads Hmmmmm!!

Not paying the sort of price you quote.
Have a look on the following site for leads which I may, just may, experiment in purchasing

www.vehicleproducts.co.uk

Catalogue shows Silocone Leads sold individually with fitted connectors - price dependant on length - max 1170mm is £3.74 min 300mm £2.04. Probably have to add P+P and VAT.
Colour Black, Orange or Yellow

But do you actually need new leads??

Just got the car back from the Mechanic and he said it is running 100% after tune up. And it sounds it!!

Now I've had some problems with this car vis-a-vis, high idle, totally dying on me where AA man said "bags of spark" but could not get it to fire even on one cylinder with extra battery power. Mechie diagnosed that there was no spark at Rotor arm and when replaced said that there was arking on Dissie cap.

Anyway, new Dissie and new Rotor, new earth lead to dissie, and car returned running lumpy. Idle control started playing up again and so changed back to Idle Control Unit which THANK YOU MALCOLM (Television) has examined and restored.

Todays testing and tuning diagnosed just one faulty spark plug which after cooking? is now OK - Running beautifully on all eight cylinders - In the words of Mark Twain (with apols) talk of new lead set greatly exaggerated. OK They looked a little corroded inside the plug cap, but it isn't critical.
So, perhaps you don't need a lead set but something else!

thanks for the reply's

Hi. Most definately need new leads, the king lead doesn't have a boot on it at the coil end and some are just sitting on (act of devine intervention is holding them on)

I will tune the car up when I get the new leads from Euro parts.

.

So pleased Stuart, nice car. Whilst there was no visable or electrical faults on your rotor arm the wiper end had had a hard life, consistent with an arcing cap. As the Idle relay is OK I will do a little article on it.
Best regards Malcolm
