Ignition Leads

Anyone have a good lead (sorry for the pun) on a supplier for the above.

Eurocar parts £120 plus vat GSF circa £80 plus vat.

Antone replaced them with good quality but cheaper if poss?

try Jimmy - he's a member of MBClub and was quoting prices fairly reecently for leads - seemed very reasonable for top quality stuff

Done, thanks Andy have ordered. Copper core leads at £32 inc vat. Worth a try against £141 and £95. Lets see how good they are when they turn up.

Leads arrived £42 inc vat and postage (must be going mutton jeff) Appear to be of reasonable quality and showed all the ISO marks etc.

Fitting slightly difficult due to the caps being of soft rubber rather than hard moulded. It was difficult to know if you had the cap on right. However all fit OK.

Slap wrist though for the fitter. Because I know better and was in a hurry I did not disconnect the battery. And because I know better and was in a hurry I did not take care to isolate the two pinned plug for the variable camshaft timming control and managed to short it. Oh bother.

The result I have spent over two hours trying to remedy the damage. When started the cam shafts rattle like no tomorrow and the ABS has switched off.

Eventually I traced the whole lot down to a 10A fuse behind a plastic cover behind the battery. From what I can deduce it isolates the ABS and some parts of the ECU. This fuse is not in the Haynes Manual or in the handbook.

So the moral of the story - well we all know that one, I'm a plonker!

However I thought the fuse location and effect of failure may be of interest should the ABS light come on and your engine rattle.
