ignition problem key wont turn

hi..i have a 1999 c class auto estate and the electronic key wont turn but you can hear the steering lock disengage...as anyone experienced this problem

i'm sure someone with more experience than me will come along soon, but have you tried wiggling the steering wheel while turning ??
