Ignition Switch Barell

Hi all, I am a newbi here and need a bit of advise if possible, I am a heavy equipment mechanic and my friend has asked me if I could fit a new barell in the igniton switch of his 94 230TE, I have not seen the estate yet so I don't know whats involved or if its possible to replace the barell on its own or does the whole unit have to be changed, the problem with it is it is very difficult to get the key to go in and then difficult to turn it, the unused spare key has been tried and the barell sprayed a few shots of WD40 to no avail, any advice would be much appreciated.

Do a search on this Foum and you'll find the details. If you can turn the barrel to position 1 (or 2, can't remember) then it's easy to remove using two 3 mm rods. If you can't get it to turn then it's a whole different ballgame

Do you have the new barrel keyed to the car? They take about 5 days to arrive from Germany

Barell

Ign. barrel.

Looks like your friend is just in time Jim! So long as the key turns to pos.1 it only takes seconds to change the barrel, but once that key stops turning = megabucks!
Courtesy of 190D - Small length of welding rod bent in the shape of a U With both ends tapered at the inside. Turn ignition switch until notches line up and insert the tool whilst pulling on the key.
