Why is it LHD if it was meant for the Japanese market?

Allegedly the Yakuza always bought LHD Mercedes as they were more expensive / ostentatious / obvious

Surely MB didnt produce a car specifically to sell to 73 Yakuza? It does seema bit strange that they would make a car for the Japanese market and then make it left hooker, anyone else know anymore on this model?

I can't somehow see the yakusa cruising in a wee fiesta, except maybe in a carry on film with a heavily made up Sid James as the yakusa boss
With Barbara Windsor as a giggly Giesha on his knee....;)

I'd still like the car in question on my drive....he sighed longingly....

LHD is a sign of prestige in Japan, it means you can afford an imported car. MB would do this as it woud appeal to Japanese folk wanting to show off that there was a import car

It's probably a more mundane reason that that.

Like the 400 engine won't fit in a RHD shell (steering column in way)
