Hi guys, I've got a similar conundrum to an earlier post.
Fob will lock/unlock the car but will not release the immobiliser when inserted, I am down to using the flat plastic siemens spare.
I have replaced the batteries and tried most things mentioned in previous posts, so far to no avail.
Car is a '96 E270
Any advice that keeps me from the dealers door would be gratefully accepted.
Cheers

Not sure if there's a direct relationship but when this happened me with the electronic key for my W reg C220 CDi (I'm not sure what type of key / ignition system you have) it was as a result of insufficient charge in the car's battery - a lot cheaper to rectify than the ignition system recommended by the dealer!

Also - if it is an infra red key - try cleaning both lenses; either with a baby wipe or cotton bud dipped in meths.

Your Mercedes
A diesel
There is a transponder in the key housing. If one key works and another doesn't it's the key at fault.

Cheers for that, I figured it must have been something like a transponder in the key because the remote lock/unlock works fine.
Any fix for it or is it a new gold plated one from the dealer?
