Importing C200 to UK: Engine number

Hi all,

I am still trying to get my C200 registered in the UK, the next stumbling block is the Engine number: do you know where it is? Or what the format would be?

The model is a C200 Elegance from 1994, left hand drive.

The engine number is either stamped onto the rear of the cylinder block, near the transmission mounting face, or onto the front of the left-hand face of the cylinder block, depending on engine type.
I don't know specifically which of these two places will apply to your particular engine.

C200 Engine number

That is where I was looking for it but I do not seem to be able to see it!!
Do I need to take anything apart to see the actual number?
Apologies I am not very technical..mine is a petrol model.

It will be stamped on so run your fingers across the metal and youi'll probably feel the indentations. Make sure the engine is cold before you do this!
Top rear of cylinder block where it adjoins the transmission (dark down there), or l/h face of cylinder block somewhere below the inlet manifold so it'll be a bit dark there too. Use a good torch.
