Engine swap. They say, don't build a car you can buy, so I'd look at the 190 2.6 as a starter. Or a 2.3 or 2.5 16V version.

Which 190 do you have?
If it's a 2.0, drop in a 2.3 for 14bhp extra, if it's a 2.6 drop in a 3.0.

Going back to the original question, can you give us more details? For example, what age and model is it? Have you just bought it or had it a while?

Its possible that it has a fault, eg blocked air filter, poor condition ignition, accelerator cable badly adjusted and not achieving full throttle, worn injectors, etc. which meanits down on performance. So, some background info would be needed before we go down the performance improvement route.

Traditional first steps in tuning would be a freeflow air filter, big bore exhaust, ported & polished inlet manifold, larger throttle body, longer duration cam. Then look at bigger capacity. The reason I said engine swap, is that all the previous are costly on a Merc, while you may be able to source a replacement engine much cheaper, eg from an MoT failed car.
