Did'nt know whether to put this here or in Engine and ecu section so guess it'll be moved if can be better placed.

I've had a remap done on my 52 E220 by DMS and have been happy with the result. I'm considering upgrading to an E320 and have considerd the following modifications to get the optimum power and remove restrictors to obtain more power. You're thoughts on whether these mod's would work/be a waste of money etc would be appreciated:

Any EU3 model E320 instead of EU4 with more restrictive particulate filter - what year was the EU4 filters fitted?

Remap £650

Uprated fuel pump £?

sports exhaust/ free flow exhaust or even de- cat £400

K&N air filter £75

uprated turbo £?

any informed views on whether these mods would be beneficial bearing in mind price for any increased power has to be considered.

Finally, I've noticed the latest '06 model E class CDI has regular exhaust pipes (not downturned like diesel's usually have) like a petrol. Is this due to the fact that the particulate filter is so restrictive that the amount of usual diesel black soot/ smoke coming out of the exhaust is minimal? Always prefer the aesthetic look of some nice twin chromed exhaust pipes on a car.

Though many people swear by their K& N filter, others have said that as it uses oil to function, under hot conditions it can make the MAF oily.
I understand that everyone is pleased with the performance effect of it.

I believe that the EU4 came in in 2004. Before chipping a 320 have you tried one, as IMHO it does not need anymore power, it has plenty plenty :D .
Power was quoted the same for EU3 and EU4, just the combined fuel economy was 2.3mpg less for the EU4.

I've always found that for NO initial cost, you can increase performance by reducing the distance between the throttle pedal and the floor by approximately one inch from your standard setting !!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest the E320 remap (which takes the torque up to the V8 diesel level) would be enough before you should start spendng money on the driveline components in order to actually be able to use the power (with reliability).

The E320 handles well but is not set up for road racing and will wallow out of corners with that much additional power with the traction control system singing its tune.
