I am looking to get my C250TD serviced by an independent garage in the Bristol / South Gloucestershire area, and I would appreciate any recommendations that Forum members can give.

PS - I'm new to this forum, but it looks quite lively and informative.

Me too! I'd be very interested in learning of a good independent specialist in the Bristol area that knows his Mercs.

Hi guys,

There's a couple that I know of.

I use Steve Bateman a specialist on the Central Industrial Estate, Bath Rd in Brislington. His number is: 0117-972 0600.

The other one that I'm aware of is Parkway Automobile Engineering, Unit 1, Parnall Rd, Fishponds. The number there is: 0117-965 6164. I haven't used them myself but I've seen them recommended.

There isn't a huge choice for a city the size of Bristol. I've also heard of a company called Hansa in Cheltenham as well if that's of any use.

Good luck. Lets us know how you get on and who you choose.

Regards,

Kevin Langdon

Kevin,

What sort of work have you had done there mate? I'm after my prop guibos/couplings replacing and maybe the cv joint to diff. Do you think they'd know what they're doing with such stuff? Cheers.

On my current car, I've only had the the basic servicing done. But on my previous 300te estate he did the head gasket, re-skimmed it, etc

He's a slightly funny chap - you'll know what I mean when you meet him, but he's always polite, does what he says he's going to do and will quote before doing anything. His labour charge is around £30-35 per hour which isn't too bad in today's terms.

He's convenient for me as I only work up the road - others in the studio have also used him (he does Italian cars as well - just rebuilt a colleague's Alfa engine).

Probably the best bet is to pop in, have a chat and ask for a price and see what you think.

Many thanks Kevin

I've got 2000 (miles I presume) according to the service indicator so I have time to follow up your recommendation. I need to get this done before I tug my mobile road blocker down to the Loire Valley at the end of May.

I will let you all know how I get on with the service.

Cheers and beers

Well guys, I thought I'd give you some feedback. I used the garage recommended by Kevin, i.e. Steve Bateman. He carried out the 'B' service, including changing the transmission fluid and the bill was £258 inclusive of VAT.

I see what Kevin means when he describes Steve, but I was generally impressed with his competence. He gave the car a thorough inspection because I've only owned it for 3 weeks and found 3 things that ought to be done; he also gave me an honest appraisal of the priorities of the jobs, and quoted a reasonable price. So I'm taking the car back next week to have the work done.

Cooky,

I'm glad everything was OK. There's nothing worse than making a recommendation which doesn't work out.

Kevin
