E220 CDI (W210).

Its not a bad car but as well as having let me down twice, recently one of the xenon HT units failed. Just outside guarantee. Cost at MB Watford? Not far short of £600. Ouch.

Now the segments are failing in the outside temp display. Some time back I got the instrument cluster out, thanks to posts on this forum, in about 10 minutes. MB Watford said "lot of labour to get that out".... I live with it for now.

Anyway, my problem now is at 56k miles the car hesitates from 2000rpm upwards and doesn't want to accelerate. There is uneven power delivery at this engine speed. Elsewhere on here fuel starvation is suggested, blocked filter etc (see http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=17655)

I have go to MB for servicing for the Mobilo Life etc, but I'm not pleased with them. Anyone suggest a good independent in my area for this sort of thing?

Thanks

Sounds like your MAS sensor is failing. Hesitancy and inability to rev beyond 3,000 revs with no warning lights are the signs.

Didn't quite follow your post, you have taken the instrument cluster out but have you fixed the LCD display? or did you just put it back?

Sorry, it was a bit of a rant. I took out the instrument cluster to replace some blown bulbs (the ones that illuminate the dials) but that was some time before the segments (the bottom ones on the digits) started to fail. It was alright when I put it back, honest!

If the MAS sensor is failing is that something I can do? I replaced the glow plugs about 4k miles ago, no problem, so if its that easy...

I too go along with the MAF, for this.

Thanks very much for the advice. The MAF sensor was indeed the problem and its easy to replace. Remove the six screws that secure the plastic covers on top of the engine. The MAF sensor is here:

My trusty wrench and set of star bits are in the background. You'll need two sizes.

Remove the connection and sensor retaining screws. Pull the sensor out

And here it is:

New one from MB dealers was £68.97 inc VAT. "We sell a lot of those". Just thought it was wiser to replace it.

Pleased you have sorted it.
On an aside I would recommend you clear out all the leaves visible in your 3rd picture as soon as possible. If the drain holes become blocked you will end up with very damp footwells.

Removal of recent W210 instrument module

I need to remove my instrument module to repair clock readout(intermittent pixels). There are NO slots or holes into which I can insert release tools.

I saw a thread that said I should remove the driver's side air vent(no problem) and then reach in and simply push the unit out from behind.
Is that it? Does it work or do I snap off half a dozen plastic clips that lead me back to a hand rubbing dealer with pound notes in his eyes?

If it is the wrong way, does anyone know what does work, please?
