Any recommendations for an independent in Surrey, ideally within Kingston/ Guildford/ Redhill/ Dorking area?
Right now I just need someone to look at the windscreen wash system, so it's nothing specialist.
I'd like to find an Indie I can use in the future, as this car is a keeper, I hope -(02 SLK32AMG)

Thanks, both of you.
Anyone else with a suggestion on someone they can recommend?
Has anyone used QMotors in Adelstone (Weybridge) or MercMedic in Send....they were two I found on the web.

Hi, if you were going to Addleston / Weybridge I would definitely recommend SS Motors as they are very good. There is also Griffin's at Hampton, James Leigh at Colliers Wood and Steve refern in Wimbledon.

regards,

Dave

Thanks all.
I visted SS last night, was impressed by the collection of special cars there (vintage DB6, DB9, Elise, Mustang), and that was only a cursory glance into the garage.
I'm booked in on Monday, if I can't fix it myself over the weekend.
I'll try flushing the tank wth a hose, then poking at the nozzles while running the pump.

Malcolm, thanks for the offer of help on the washer.

How's this for a plan?

I have one jet fully operational, the remainder are weak and vaiable. In fact the fully operatinal one looks like it's operating at much higher pressure, due other jets blocked, which would say that pump is OK, and wahers lines are not leaking.

I'll be taking a look at fixing this weekend.
(I don't use the car during the week, tend to leave it in company carpark and walk to/from work/house, only 20 minutes, good exercise and avoids lots of cold running of car)

So the plan is.....

Wash windows with bonnet open, see if any leakage under bonnet or offside front wheel well, checking for pipe leakage, just in case.

Then....
Hose into washer fluid inlet...flush out tank by overflowing.....period of flushing tp depend on whether gunge/precipitate is visible in overflow.
Then....run windscreen washers (perhaps with wipers hinged away from screen?) while probing the jets gently with pin to dislodge crud.
I will also try an air-duster (aerosol compressed air spray used for cleaning computer keyboards) around the jets.
If insufficient improvement, it's on to stage 2, which will be looking for washer pipes. If I can see them anywhere under the bonnet, I'll disconnect them, and flush through to the disconnected part from washer pump, then use compressed air (air duster) from the disconection site through to the jets.
If that doesn't work, it's booked into S S Motors in Weybridge.
I'll also try the headlamp washers. I've only had the car since May, haven't been out in bad weather, so haven't used the headlamp washers at all yet.

I'd be grateful for any hints on addtional procedures to adopt, or info you can give about how to access pipes, jets, even pump.

PS Absolutely love the car....I haven't felt like this about a car since I was a kid. I want to drive it all the time, that's the orher reason I leave it at work....resisting the temptation to lose my licence on my fun-drive circuit (A31/A272/A3)

Fixed the washers....
Flushed the tank and ran the washers while probing with a pin, then kept on washing and flushing. Seems to be OK now.
The problem started when I added screenwash concentrate, then topped up with water.
Next time I used the washers, they progressively got weaker and weaker, then stopped. Perhaps I should have pre-diluted the concentrate, or maybe it reacted with what was already in the tank.
Begs the question what to put in the screenwash tank to prevent freezing next time.
The screenwash I used is sold by the world's biggest oilco, in shop at their HQ.
Being a loyal employee of said oilco, I can't believe they would sell rubbish, given their product quality rep in the industry.
Can only try again, and hope for the best.

Pleased that you have fixed it, you make a good point of mixing it first, The MB one is very good but expensive, but if you work with a supplier then say no more;)
