its a W202 c180 1995 - when I use the wash wipe on its own everything is ok...if i use indicator left then the intermittent wash wipe comes on and I cant switch it off?? any ideas? is this Multi Function relay I keep hearing about or is the stalk itself?

TIA

I'd say it was the stalk. Some people on here have had success cleaning the switch. I normally just replace them

is it easy to clean the stalk? Do I have to remove the steering wheel or can I remove the steering cowel and access it from there?

Thanks

ok ive done that before on golf ...I think it could be that switch on the end of the stalk, as mentioned everything is fine until I indicate so something may be switching the wipers on from that end, il try and play with it and see what happens.

Dec, I owe you a pint

my 202 wipers went independent this am. Half an hour with your post and some contact cleaner as outlined above has saved me 87 quid plus all the hassles of changing the stalk.
As an aside, why is it when there are two part nos to choose from, mine always ends up the expensive one?

That’s Murphey’s law, I suffer from that too, I inquired about price for a water pump from MB, forget the price quoted, anyhow 10 minutes later the call me back to say that the pump is in fact €30 more than the originally quoted.

Thanks for the feedback. I have heard that contact cleaner works but you are the first that has actually confirmed it to me, however I am just wondering if it happened before will it happen again…Murphey’s Law.

once in 14 years can't be sniffed at

and it does get a lot of use up here in cloudland. It's the only control I don't like on mercs. I have always preferred a separate wiper stalk. At least the one on the 210 lets you flashwipe by pressing rather than twisting, w/out squirting. Can't do that on the 202 or the 107.
I'll repeat the performance until it no longer cures the fault.
It did take a lot of squirting and working the switch though, even though nothing seemed to come out. The cloth I was using was soaking wet.
Cheers again mate , and the others who have written on this theme.
