Hi, hope somebody can help, a friend of mine has just aquired a 92J sl300. When the car is locked and the alarm set, all the indicators flash very fast and will not stop until the car is unlocked and the alarm disarmed. The relay for the indicators has been replaced and checked and also swopped the alarm module with a known working one but the problem still there. Any ideas of where to look - thanks in advance.

Presumably the indicators work normally other than this?
What type of locking is it? Is it the single button remote with the red and green lights under the mirror? Not sure whether that system was installed to the SL but assuming its the same as my 95 c class....

My car didn't come with an alarm as standard, but the dealer fitted an alarm integrated to the factory locking system so unless you knew, you'd assume it was a factory system. When there was a problem with the locking, (door partially open or remote signal weak) the locking system would flash the red and green lights together (under the mirror and in the door handle). This would confuse the alarm which would beep incessantly and flash the indicators until the double lights stopped (30 secs +) and it all settled down.

Whether the above fits or not, the only thing that is likley to flash the indicators in this manner is the alarm so if it's not happy, you need to find out why.

Thanks for the reply, yes the indicators work fine. As far as i know it is a factory fit alarm but will check tonight with him. On my s class the indicators flash quickly when locking the car if a door is not shut correctly and talking to other mercedes owners today some of their cars do the same so must be an alarm problem. Think there might be a problem with some wiring somewhere, just wondered if anybody else had had a similar problem or could advise where to start looking, cheers.

Hi,
Similar problem with w202s alarm system (Scorpion fitted from new by MBUK i believe in SLs and E Class as well) but mine would flash the red and green leds (on the door and the mirror) approx. 10 times then would stop, this would happen on locking and unlocking, it also would,nt reset the immobiliser hence i had to bypass the immobiliser till i fixed the problem.
Dunno exactly what cured it i really only looked at a relay with the intention of testing cleaning possibly replacing but it was perfect, i put new batteries in the fob and disconnected the battery reconnecting after approx. 10 mins.
I personally think replacing the the fob batteries cured it and i have found that the fob batteries don,t seem too last very long and at this time it reverts to the rapid led scenario, new batteries and its perfect.
It seems ridiculously simple but try new fob batteries before you do anything else as there very cheap. You may think because the fob is locking/unlocking it works 'apparently' it sends two signals one 'seeming' to be voltage sensitive
Hope this is of some help.
I have link to some tech. information on the PC somewhere let me know if this solution doesnt work and i,ll post it for you.
