Have spotted a vehicle in Blackburn that I need an inspection on pref today as these cars seem to be flying like hot cakes! if not today then early tomorrow.

If you going to be travelling to see vehicles,why not ask Malcolm (Television) to let you have a list of quality Indies withni say the Northern Region?
That way you will be able to move quickly and perhaps secure the vehicle you want.

2 of the Blackburn techs who were recently made redundant have set up in Read between Burnley and Clitheroe.
they have been mentioned a couple of times on here so if you do a search you should find their contact details.

another one is Thornley at Walton le Dale Preston which is not too far. Again do a search for this.

@malcolm - IS there a definative list for the those in the "know"?


like the OP here i'm on the hunt but wouldnt buy one without an inspection, but as always time is the essence with these thing so a sticky with some kind of "approved" list covering the whole country might not be a bad idea?? although i'm not sure how "approved" would be defined

i've seen a car in coalville and one in tunbridge wells but they'd need hooking upto STAR before i handed over any cash!!

No we do not have one, and the one we had was removed over the 124 works problem.

I am trying to compile a list for all the area's but this takes time

I use them for all my major repairs gear box etc
Sean one of the owners is a time served MB technician for over 10 yrs worked at MB Blackburn up and till 6 mths ago, when he took redundancy to start his own business.
I had a gear box problem about 3 years ago but I wouldn't take the motor to MB dealers,
I did go to the MB van indi in Blackburn they said that any difficult diagnostic stuff they could get done cheep with a guy that worked at MB Blackburn and he would do it on his dinner brake,
you can use the same guy as he now runs his own business see above
I've had work done a prices that can't be beaten

In my opinion, for what it's worth, when you take your car to a garage for repair, the character of the proprietor, is not of the upmost importance.

With reference to your comment on him being highly regarded on other forums - Is he?

The other forum has covered up for the bad work done at 124 works and removed most of any post relating to it. Mainly as they promoted him to the height of competence

Ian has no MB training what so ever,he is poor with electrics, and should anyone who attempted to remove a water pump from a 600 with an angle grinder be of sound mind to work on any cars, yet alone ours, and this is only one job done so badly out of loads

I today used Read Garage to repair the Parktronic on my E-Class (self inflicted damage!). They are nice blokes, have two Star machines and I'll be using them again if necessary.

£144 to diagnose, replace and paint new sensor. Then knocked £20 off diagnosis for having the work done at their garage. Local main dealer wanted £85+ VAT just to diagnose!

For this kind of work there's just no comparison!
