My SL400 is booked for its (slightly delayed) annual service shortly. For various reasons, it has done <1000 miles since its last service in January 2021. In recognition of this low usage, I have been offered an injector and air conditioning system clean (extra £40 of course) with a view to improving performance and de-bugging the aircon system.

Beneficial or smoke and mirrors?

You can add your own injector cleaner from Halfords for a few quid if you wish . Besides I thought MB did not approve the use of additives ?? Or just give your car an Italian tune up which is free .
As for aircon , you can also buy an anti bacterial fog can for £10 and do that yourself as well .
I probably just saved you £30

AC bomb can be good, but only if you have smells, no point in doing it for the sake of it.

As above on the injector clean!

Lots of garages are upselling the AC refresh not just MB.

Redex from wilko for 4 pounds.

They are charging you 40 notes for what costs them probably 5.

Upselling is big profit.

I would say no thanks

Holts aircon bomb, engine on, windows closed, aircon on max cool and fan, plus on recirc, trigger bomb behind rear seats, close doors and let it do its thing! Costs IIRC less than £5.

When I got a new (old) car with slightly whiffy aircon that was due to it not working due to condenser leak, it was winter, so I was able to do quite a few runs with heat on max for a good while with the windows appropriately cracked to prevent sauna cabin temps. In addition to the aircon clean bomb, worked a treat (after a pollen filter change and sorting the condenser).

Yes indeed, AC treatment in a can (air con bomb) worked a treat in mine, think it was Comma brand. Also change the cabin filter if its old as they can smell a bit. Mr Greedy is right too, running heat through esp. after using AC (even in summer) will keep the whiffs at bay for even longer and switch off the compressor well before you park up if you can, to let it dry off a bit!
