Hey guys hopeing for some help!!! So a garage had wife's 2004 ML 270 CDI in for a leaking injector ( it was chuffing guzzling the diesel down like it was going out of fashion, smelling of diesel in the cab when idling ect you know the score guys they apparently replace the copper seals ( mechanic asked me what we were planning to do with car so I said well it's the wife's car for her shopping and getting kids to school ect he said oh ok well the injector is sorted for now but don't know how long it's gonna last)

Car seemed fine then the smell of diesel in cab high economy again and very loud chuffing as well as what sounds like a squeal so wife's friend is a mechanic and had a look he found the copper seal was on its side and all bent so rectified that at my go ahead however when he removed the stretch bolt a load of water gushed up through the bore he cleaned up around the bore and seat used a new stretch bolt and copper seal and now no start the engine won't crank and makes a noise that putting it bluntly sounds like a f****d up elephant please can anybody advise as the wife is very distraught about her beloved ML what makes it worse is it was left to her by her late father so holds a lot of sentimental value as well as memories

Cheers guys

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but if there was water coming in from the stretch bolt hole then the cylinder head is shot.
Sounds as though whoever you used to repair the leaky injector first time round executed the repair very badly and failed to clean out the bolt hole sufficiently and the injector bolt has punctured the water jacket.

It may be hydrolocked, either way it would require a new cylinder head.

Yes Ebay is probably your best bet. finding someone suitably competent to take it on may be more of a challenge, its quite a big job. Good luck though.

See if it wasn't the 2nd injector closest to the back of the engine I would have had a look my self but with my disability and being in a wheel chair stretching over the entire engine just wasn't possible I did however give it a good try but just couldn't manage it and also being only 4"2 doesn't help ( oh and half............. Better not forget the half inch lol )

It's a shame really ,replacing leaky injector seals correctly is really not that difficult but you do have to know what you're doing, as your garage have discovered it if your not careful it can easily go horribly wrong an ruin an otherwise perfectly good engine. Please do keep us posted.

Yeah you are 100% correct there it did start to crank but stopped and then refused to crank have had thoughts of replacing the whole engine to be fair! As before this injector issue reared its ugly head the coolent light kept coming on but the expansion tank was on the mark as was the oil (irony is it was booked in to the stealership for diagnostics on the coolant issue) so we are at the moment grounded with out wheels for now! I have a 230 E W124 (not big enough for all 6 of us) but again the brake master cylinder has gone on that and it too has running issues as it keeps losing power and hesitant at times to take off. It's had a lot of work done to it to try to find the fault even by mercs them selves no one seems to be able to pin point the issue with it! Even had a new fuel metering head again an incompetent garage diagnosed it with the fuel metering head but in all honesty the rubber boot had a hole it in! £30 brand new from mercs but garage had me supply a whole new head. Wasn't until I inspected the rubber boot that I discovered myself that the hole was there! Tried to assatain from garage before hand if the boot was intact and they told it was. So after all that it run great for a while until a long drive from Scotland to Southampton Changed it all. Anyhow that's another story for another day.
