Hi guys,
purchased a "02" 220cdi in sept 05 from a mercedes dealership. It has a secondhand MB warranty on it.In november 1 injector failed ,we were advised to get them all changed UNTIL we argued that it should be covered under warranty, they then said just the broken injector needs to be changed.Another 1 has gone today anybody know if these are covered under warrenty and if we have a case for getting them all changed?
Thanks for your feedback.

Brakes, tyres, wiper blades - these are things that aren't covered by warranty. Crucial engine components should be.

Sure the existing injector should be covered - in my view, thats a no brainer. Even the cheapest warranties should cover injectors. Though it sounds like this aspect isn't being argued anyway.

However, as far as getting them all changed, sorry but I don't think so.
Technically, no warranty cover items that 'may' fail. This is an insurance backed warranty I assume, as the factory one ran out some time ago. Whatever the branding, you can be fairly sure that at the back of it is some monolithic mutual society. As far as the insurance co is concerned, they aren't going to pay out for anything that is still working. As far as they are concerned, they will cover anything that actually fails for the period of the warranty. If you want cover going further, you'd need to extend the warranty for another 12 months.

Thats really all a warranty is. A bet between you and them. You bet that what fails will be more expensive than the premium (admittedly paid by the dealer in this case, but the ins co doesn't care). They bet it won't. They aren't going to shift the odds in your favour any more than a bookie will pay out early because a horse is 'likely' to win, or return the premium because all was well. They are in it for a profit.

If you are confident the rest will go (a fair bet under the circumstances), I'd look at extending the warranty or, if its a bit pricey, taking one out with the likes of warranty direct or the AA when this one expires. Sods law decrees that the remaining injectors will then work perfectly for another 13 months!

If you do extend the existing warranty, check the terms for renewal. I left mine until the manufacturer's had actually expired and the dealer wanted £200 for an inspection before they could re-cover it. Had it still been under an existing warranty, this wouldn't have applied. Learned this lesson and bought an extra year (on top of the remaining 2 years manufacturer's) with the car this time - doesn't kick in for 2 years, but at least when it does, the transition will be seamless. Also the dealer warranty, whilst more expensive, is, in my experience, a hell of a lot better coverage and worth the difference so check the t&c's carefully. I bought an external one for my 240 and everything that failed that year wasn't covered.
