Injectors not firing? E55

Hi guys

I own a 1999 E55 estate.

When i start the car something odd occasionally happens...

Sometimes I start and all is 100% fine and dandy.

But other times (maybe 1 in 3 average) something a bit weird happens. Basically the car does not perform properly - it loses around half the power and instead of the acceleration being smooth it becomes lumpy and chugs (kind of like a tractor/deisel sensation really).

I had it checked out and it seems that half the bank of injectors (the left side) are not firing when this problem occurs. But the system could not distinguish what the cause of the problem is.

It's annoying because I sometimes have to stop at the lights and restart the engine to get it in the right 'mode'. Once it's started correctly it's fine - and if it starts wrong it stays like that until the engine is switched off and on again. So it does not switch between being good or bad - it stays as either depending on how it started up.

Anyone ever heard of this before? Any ideas?

:)

redex

Oh yes - it was recommended that I try a fuel injector cleaner. I have added a full bottle of Redex to the fuel - makes it run real nice!!!

However - it didn't solve the problem.

Could be a lamda sensor in the exhaust giving incorrect readings & shutting down one bank. There are 4 of them on your car. It needs to go on a diagnosis machine from a dealer or good specialist.

airflow meter?

I've been told that it could be an airflow meter?

I've had it checked and was told that camshaft sensor is unlikely but the airflow meter could be the culprit - and it;s the left bank that's closing off.

Any ideas?

:D
