Has anyone else had this fault diagnosed by a garage with a Mercedes gla 2.1 200 2018 model I have a rac warrenty and the approved garage wanted me to pay the work upfront and then claim of the warrenty. This isn’t how it works the garage is supposed to claim. Don’t even trust the garage if this is the real issue. Taking it to a different one next week who do claim the money of the warrenty and don’t expect the customer to pay upfront , be interesting to see if they find the same fault.I noticed there was a problem when mainly in 6th gear if I put my foot down it would drop revs and struggle to pick up speed fast

inlet manifold issues are the new normal failure on lots of cars, cheap plastic boxes with flaps and bits that snap and fall off

infact on mine its an expensive 600 quid aluminium thing, plus 3 hours to fit ( so about £1k in and out !!!) but it falls to bits anyway

if you have a 2018 car I'd be going to a proper garage that know their stuff not some nasty place I bought it from... If you give us a clue where u r we can point you towards some specialist independent specialist Merc garages that are often better than main dealers.

Its quite likely you have lots of emission fun that needs software updates for - but if either of these suggest there's some dealer work required - go pre warned its NOT ever straight forward. They have some issues where they try to get the customer to pay for work they should be doing free. If yours is a diesel check for posts about NOx sensors and EML lights after dealer updates

oh on another point diesels are not the best car for regular 3 mile trips and generally clogged up in traffic jams. To meet emission standards they have very complex systems. But these prefer regular steady 20 mile 75mph runs to complete regeneration cycles (where it may sound and feel like its running funny). Actually some of the later fixes with new parts and lots of software changes allows this to work far better than when a 2018 car was made...

And posh fuel from Shell or Esso is vastly superior to the budget Tesco, Adsa, Morrsion branded stuff

I let manifolds can fail in the 651 engine, some garages want the customer to pay as some warranty companies take months to settle an already agreed claim, so it helps their cash flow.

There’s no point having a warrenty if that’s the case and they shouldn’t take on warrenty work if they can’t afford it

Why should a garage wait 2-3 months to get paid? With all the worry and risk the warranty company could go bust. Garages are not banks.

That’s there choice. Not all company’s take that long , I’ve had warrenty work done before and I’ve never payed upfront , If they can’t afford to wait don’t take on the work same in any trade. That’s the whole point of insurance /warrenty work.

The trouble with third party warranty work is that a lot of claims fail, I would never put a garage in a situation where a warranty company were disputing a claim there is a strong possibility they won’t get paid. Unfortunately most car dealers offset their warranty responsibibilities to third party companies and their business model is make as much profit as possible so they generally aren’t working in your interests so beware. If you want a rock solid warranty nowadays you have to buy a car from a franchised dealer

If it was an MB warranty then I would agree with you, however if it’s a third party one then they are almost as useless as fart in an airplane

Would you wait 2-3 months for your wages?
We DO warranty work, however we are big enough to take the risk and wait, some are not.
And Yes not all warranty companies make you wait but you don’t know that at time of booking.
