Inner door handle no longer opens door.

Please help, pulled the handle to open door, and heard something disconnect. If this was an older car I would probably have a go and removing the inner panel.

Either the handle has snapped or the cable has come off, either way door card off.

Ok thanks, I might try and remove myself, there seems to be a kit that includes self tapping screws as you have to break some plastic clips to to get to the broken part. Apparently this is a common failure!!

As expected, the door mech is broken. To remove I will have to cut of the white plastic clips off.

Not available separately from mb or they never used to be, whole door card. You can buy elsewhere tho.

Really odd, most of the clips have to be cut off, there were only 2 x torx screws, but another 20 plastic welded clips. Fingers crossed this all goes back together well once the replacement handle arrives.

Can I just double check. The two options for a replacement handle are, bright or matt. This is a matt finish isn't it?

After doing some research, it appears that this is a general weakness in design. I've read that if you go to a MB dealer, they will charge over £400 for the inner door section plus labour.

New handle in place.



New screw supplied with handle in place, fairly straight forward. I did have to pre-drill a small how in the plastic so that the self tapping screw had something to bit on.



The new handle doesn't sit as flush as the original, but I can live with that.

The only frustrating part is with the door card, I'm not sure whether this got put out of shape during the removal and/or re-fitting? I'm hoping that over time it might sit better, but I doubt it!!



But, everything is working as before, and this probably saved me a lot of money not going to a MB dealer.

The card looks like its not seated properly in that area. I'd remove and refit. That would do my head in.

It's odd, that some of its OK, just that section by the lock mechanism. I'll look again tomorrow.

The trim is now sitting correctly. There is a small h clip that has a small internal clip. I've pushed the centre too far, it now sits inside the door somewhere, I don't need the clip, but fingers crossed, it does move internally and make a sound.
