Hi All,

Been reading that Mercedes are susceptible to inner edge tyre wear. Does anyone have any experience of this? I've just had to change tyre on front of car that had worn to cords on inner edge. While guy was changing tyre I noticed the rear tyre on same side was worn more on the inner edge than outer.

I'm prepared to have it checked with four wheel alignment but have read that others have had this done and vehicle was to specification on machine?

If the alignment is ok try upping the pressures by a couple of pounds.

R170's are notorious for this!

And to see it you really have to get almost under the car to see it. Like I only did when changing the oil on a SLK230 I had just bought...... You can imagine my shock and disbelief!
I actually mentioned to the seller, who I had previously bought a CLK320 from, and he was just as shocked as I was because obviously he'd been driving around like that for months totally unaware himself!

Other thing to watch .some ,like my w168 have multi position lower ball joints.l fouled this up and ended up putting old ones back to marks showing position .
But a number have lousy alignment which as usual these days, benz anyway requires particular equipment to check rectify, odd bolts ect. Yet another previously simple story made harder and costing more..whats new..?

That is bad. That really looks like an alignment issue to me.
