The car may have a bent a strut. When I turn on my other computer I will take a look on the set up, this has not come up before

I have twice worn the inner edges of my front tyres out on my W210 300TD before the rest of the tyre has been anywhere near worn. There is a kit that can be fitted to stand the front wheels slightly more upright, however, I prefer the look of them slightly leaning in. From memory this kit is just a bolt and eccentric washer that effectively creates a new hole for a pre-existing bolt to fit into. All legitimate - mine were fitted by a MB technician.

Since having the kit fitted, buying 93 or 95 rated side-wall tyres, having the full geometry/tracking done and having the front tyres flipped at regular intervals I have had no such problems. In fact, I think my current front tyres are going to last a record breaking length of time, which should help me to recover the cost of the alignment work. Eventually.

hi. inner tyre wear isnt a problem on my E300 TD saloon. laser alignment chech probably wont help that much as it will only tell you if the front wheels are running in correct alignment to the rears. 2 things id do. 1st check the ride height is correct from hub centre to wheelarch. if its been lowered or has badly sagging springs, this will send the wheel camber out and the wheels lean in excessively at the top. 2nd thing is to get a full steering geometry check for camber, kpi and toe out on turns. the camber being out gives same problem as weak springs but often shows variations side to side, eg if something is bent like a suspension arm etc. the toe out on turns is the difference in angles the inner wheel turns from the outer wheel when the steering is turned for cornering. if this is wrong it has similar effect as incorrecxt tracking. if you put the car on angle calibrated turnplates, turn the steering till the outer wheel is turned to 20 degrees. as a rule the inner wheel shoul be reading about 23 degrees or so. im sure that someone will know the exact figure for your car

Excessive camber angle or 'wheels leaning in' will cause inner tyre wear. This can be caused by tired springs or the wrong shims fitted to end of spring.

The Rock is quite right - it can be put right with camber correction bolts - about £30 for a set of 4. Easy job to do yourself but you will have to reset the tracking after fitting the bolts.

If you can get 20,000 miles out of a set of tyres are you bothered? Some like the look and say that cornering is enhanced.
