installing a cd player/naive new owner

Hi. Sorry if this has been discussed before but couldn't find it.


I recently bought a W reg C220 CDI Estate with a Philips radio/cassette. I decided to install a cd player.

The cd player works but the car doesn't (ignition key doesn't turn). if I disconnect cd car works.

errr - that shouldn't happen!
I suspect you have connected up the wrong wire somewhere.
Id get an auto sparky to take a look at the connections. Blow something up and it could get very expensive so not worth mucking about too much.

Older cars had an ATA Anti Theft Unit that would disable the starter circuit if the radio was remived. Maybe you have a new-fangled version of that? Certainly sounds like it
