Being a mug for acting on advertising, I've just got a bottle of Shine Auto's Instaramic Black Mint ceramic spray to try.
Not too expensive at £24 99 + postage, I hope to get the car washed polished waxed this coming week to try this new product.

If it's not up to much, I haven't lost a great deal.
I'll post pics here when its done.

Here is the advert that persuaded me to part with the readies

I was hoping to get this ceramic spray applied today, but after washing, claying, washing, rinsing, drying then applying a coat of Poorboys Black Hole then a layer of Bilt Hamber double speed wax I was a bit tired.
Also, the Belgian FI GP was due to start so if the weather is still good it will be done tomorrow along with removing each wheel, cleaning waxing and sealing and hopefully if time allows cleaning up the hubs and repainting them with Hammerite smooth silver.

A couple of photos of the car ready for a ceramic coating.

Are you sure that it should go on top of wax? Everything I've read and also the stuff I've used says to go onto clean paint work. It has to bond with the paint!

Christ Roger, my wife thinks that I am a little over the top because I am so fussy with the cleanliness of the car and I don't go to that extent, lord knows what your wife must be thinking !!:D

You are correct Rory and I gave myself a slap for not reading up on the correct preparation for a ceramic coating:(

So today the bucket came out and I washed the car, then clayed it removing all contaminants including the wax.
Rewashed, rinsed and dried then another coat of Poorboys Black Hole polish which is fine to use.
That was me done for the day and it looks like at least Thursday before I can tackle this new ceramic spray.

Lesson learned and I won't be making that error again.

I doubt she has a clue what I'm up to Andy. To her, a car is just to be driven and it cleans and maintains itself. I refuse to do anything to her car anymore. She is more than capable of cleaning it. I've wasted too much time doing it for her in the past.

Mate are you sure - if you have polished, you must give it a proper clean with an appropriate product (eg dilute IPA). If there is anything between your product and the paint, the effectiveness (of the ceramic) will be compromised.

I'm following the instructions from the Chemical Guys website. Step 3 in particular shows I'm doing it right this time.
The car will get a wipe down before its coated. I have plenty of iso propyl alcohol spray left from my spoiler clean down.

Poorboys Black Hole is really a glaze which works really well under a wax but any type of Ceramic Coating needs bare, clean paint so it can chemically bond to the paintwork.
Best bet is strip off the Black hole with panel wipe or ipa & then apply the coating.

Ceramic coatings are mint. I prepared my own car with bleeding iron, Polar blast, Polar wash, clay bar, and then I applied the 9H ceramic coating. It took two full days and heaps of rigorous but kind wrist action :p
Well worth the prep, the shine is unreal and the dirt really does just rinse off.

Interestingly just had a conversation with one of the Authorised Kenolon Detailers in the network that we run, who has just used the Zymol Atomic Graphene Shield.
Apart from the fact that is was alarmingly easy, he's starting to think if the so called hype is actually going to be true and this replaces not only ceramic spray sealants but the 9H ceramic process itself. As you can easily top up the coating (which lasts 18-24 months) its certainly well worth considering.

As an infidel born and bred, I am surprised to see snake oil in such an expensive-looking container.

That’s exactly what I thought but shelled out a whopping £20 for some rated very highly on amazon and I’m very impressed. Is there a way to upload a vid of me not washing the car but only rinsing it with a jet washer for a spotless shine? (I live rural so it’s constantly getting covered in straw cuttings and tractor dust)

Sorry I don’t have a YouTube account. Other than this forum I’m a bit of a mystery. No fb, no tweeter, no instant gram etc. I tend to avoid anything google really. Too many targeted ads and site recommendations whilst browsing. The constant security verification with as much personal info and contact methods I can provide quickly bored me.

-you’ll have to take my word for it that it does work and so far much better than any wax I’ve every used. All the black plastics are super shiny too.

I'm hoping to try the Zymol Graphene Shield this week on my project car before offering it to my customers, so I'll be sure to post some photo's.
Meanwhile here's some gratuitous Wednesday beading, this is with Chemical Guys Blacklight topped with O.C.D Nebula wax.
