Instrument cluster

My instrument cluster has had a complete failure.
Can I replace the one I have with any other one...or, must the part numbers match?
The problem I have is the label with the part number on has been removed.

Where is the car's mileage stored?

Mileage is stored in the cluster and a half dozen other places as well. @alexanderfoti can probably say where

Thanks Al...I am having it looked at locally to see if a repair is possible.

That would always be preferable as it's less messing round getting the odometer to read correctly.

Some clusters old chip can be resoldered to new, otherwise you need 'virginize' 2nd hand cluster and then initilize it like a new one (odometer gets data from EIS after linked to it)

If you change the cluster, part No must be same.

So, I got a used one on Ebay, £89. Found the blown fuse...and it works. Just need it coded to the car now.
