Hi guys,

to cut a long story short, i am supposed to have 2 years NCB but my renewal has come and states that I have 3 years NCB? Should I capitalise on this mistake by getting quotes base on 3 years NCB. I would be able to show my renewal letter as proof?

But would this invalidate my insurance in the event of a claim?

Don't want to tell the insurer that I think they've made a mistake incase they put up the premium.

The savings are over £100 and I am a young driver (been on a bonus accellerator policy since 10/06).

Any advice guys?

Cheers

Be very careful.
Whilst car park bumps and minor scrapes would probably be paid out without a hitch, remember that you are also insuring against the "NIGHTMARE" crash - putting someone in a wheelchair or ploughing into a bus queue.
When faced with a million plus payout, the insurance companies check absolutely everything - especially all details of the driver - even employing private detectives, looking for any possible "get-out" for them, e.g. was the car going to your work? are you insured for commuting? did you drop off a package for work on your way home - "ah ha!, that's 'business use'."
Picture this: a couple of days after a "nightmare" accident and you're feeling stupid and guilty - then a letter arrives telling you your insurance company won't be paying out.
You could lose your house...

If you knowingly make a false declaration regarding material facts when completing a proposal for motor insurance then the insurance company can and will void any policy that they have written for you based upon that proposal.

You know that the NCD entitlement is 2 years not 3 and it is a material fact, so draw your own conclusions.

As much as dealing with the motor insurance industry at all is irksome, if you want to drive legally then you need to be scrupulously honest.

Absolutely agree with everyone. Insurance Co's pay people a lot of money to try and get them out of a claim on even the slightest technicality. You would be well advised to fess up and pay the extra for a year.

It might be worth speaking to the company concerned, they may well have given you one year NCB for free. I queried something like this once on my own policy and the company said they had given me 1 Years NCB for free as I had been a named driver on another policy with the same company for a few years without any claims.
