I have an 02 ML-270CDI. I have just transferred it into my wifes name and her insurance company are now telling us that even though the alarm & immobilizer are factory fitted, they need a certificate to prove it. Any idea how I go about this ????

There are no certificates to my knowledge. Your model is not even built without an immobilizer & all europian spec cars have alarms.

Which insurance company is it?
When I was getting quotes, after mentioning it was a Merc, they nearly all assumed it would have an immobiliser fitted.

It was Tesco insurance. The person that my wife talked to agreed that it almost certainly did have one fitted as standard, but needed the cert for her paperwork. Policy is due for renewal soon, so I might just bin them.

Try e-sure I have found them to be very good but it depends on your no claim record. Phone: 0845 603 7874

I suspect you were speaking to a newbie who didn't know what they were doing. If they ask a second time, suggest they speak to their supervisor. Its a 'the computer says you don't exist' type of thing. They see the box on the screen and don't have enough intelligence to see that it's not applicable in your case. Just tell them to stop being so silly.

I have found privilege to be the best. They racked my insurance down almost £1000!!! shocking, but with my history on a group 20 car, was a pleasant surprise! :)

After my wife calling twice and speaking to a "supervisor", they still wouldn't budge. My local MB dealer has never heard of a cert for a factory fitted system, so I spoke to someone at thatcham, and they said to quote the evaluation # to them. I called and did this and hey presto you are covered. It was the old it's not on the system therefore it doesn't exist thing. I'm now in the dog house for making progress where the other half couldn't.

On the THATCHAM listings, column 2 gives an evaluation #, that is unique to the system tested. For my ML it is TC2 – 1087/0699, and for my Audi, it's TC2 – 1169/0201. I simply quoted this number and the guy said that it was the same number they had on the computer.

So did you end up insuring it with Tesco ? If not, who with ?

From your posts it is difficult for us (me anyway) to understand the process you went through, as you say on a latter post 'they' had the alarm number on their system all along. Who - Tesco ?

It could save us some future hassle - only reason for pursueing it. Thanks.
