We've just got back from a week in Borovets, ****** fantastic it was. After a weeks instruction we can both now ski down hill with less falling over.

Waiting is my Sheilas' Wheels C320 renewal quote. After reading here of others issues at renewal I opened expecting the worst.
Last year was £340.68 and now they want £310.42 - I don't want to embarrass them by pointing out their mistake so I'll just pay up:D.

Snap their hands off, i had a single claim during year and my insurance went from about £542 to over £1200 the claim was for about £800 so they were going to try to get all their money back in one go, or so they thought, 1 hour on line and got it down by about £500 to just over £750, still expensive but better.

my current insurers wanted over £100 MORE this year than last. oddly, when pushed though, they came in at about £35 LESS than last year!

I renewed mine on the 19th with Hughes (I don't think they operate outside NI) who are now doing a discount scheme with my employer.

Last year was £348 all in (inc breakdown cover, European cover etc), this year it was £331; not an earth shattering saving but certainly a change on the right side.

Bearing in mind that my mo mo would only get a pay out of around £5.5k I'm happy to keep cover basic and increase my risk some.
By not coughing up for legal protection and protected no claims and replacement car I sort of insure myself more. The way I see it when if I need these things in future I will have likely saved the dosh for the need.
After all it's not like insuring a £300k house for £140 pa, saving that £140 would be plain silly.

With our complicated motors I see breakdown cover as intelligent, now I'm looking for the most cost effective way to get that. Now I have the RBS Gold that gives all sorts but the Barcays (Advantage I think ?) looks better, but you wouldn't believe how user unfriendly Barclays have been to attain such a joint account. Considering I have the main mortgage with them (Woolwich) and between us 5 other accounts they have really p*ssed me off.

BTW I'm at 71% NCD, .... (reading I think I should be 75% ??).
Anyway at 71% if there are claims next renewal would be,
1 claim 65% .... (72%)
2 claims 45%, .... (65%)
it's not worth paying for protected NCD in my opinion.

My insurance went up to £200 this year from £178.

I only do about 3 or 4 thousand miles a year though. So mine is probably dearer per mile than you lots. Not complaining though :)

My renewal for my ML270CDI came yesterday its £193 including protected no claims, and the wife as an additional driver.
The strange thing is if I did not have the wife listed as an additional driver the premium rises another £65.
Thats with Saga which is for the over 50,s I just qualify as I am only 59 and a bit.

Have you tried Moneysupermarket.com they give you about 100 different quotes in price order, most insurers give new members a good starting discount hoping you will stay for another year or so,I always do the search to see if I can get mine any cheaper, its a very competive market out there

I've no idea how the collective mind of the insurance world works. I rang before I considered putting down a deposit to see how much it was going to cost to change my insurance from a 1.7 Ford Puma to a 3.2 V6 E320 Avantgarde. I made sure I was in a comfy chair first.
Just the £25 admin fee sir...I'm a tad baffled how a group 12a can cost the same as 16/17 or whatever this leviathan is?

I've no idea how the collective mind of the insurance world works.

You are making an unfair assumption. The person you are dealing with is unlikely to be schooled in the business. They are almost certainly in a service/call centre of some sort.

On several occasions, I have had to explain things to insurance folks on the telephone when renewing a policy or seeking their views. Their knowledge of cars and motoring is lamentable. How then can they say that "each case is risk assessed"?
