A friend of a friend has asked me to help sell their 1999 CLK which was purchased from an independant dealer when new as an "import". The car came from Germany and seems to be the same as if it had been supplied by the main dealer. The current owner shows as the first registered keeper, would there be any insurance issues that I should make prospective purchasers aware of? With thanks, Andrew

Hi, my previous MB, a W202 C Class was an import. First owner had bought it in Germany. There were no insurance issues as the car was a UK spec.
However when I bought a imported Lexus the insurance premium was much higher. Something to do with obtaining spares if car was involved in a accident.
Hope this helps.

As per eGuru, bought our C in Germany and not had any problems or extra charged. The Merc dealer here in Stuttgart ensures that when you order the car, the UK minimum spec is applied, so its no different to one you buy in the UK. You can of course buy a very specced down car in Germany as the standard equipment building block they offer has very few options(ie.no alarm, a/c, lhd etc), so best to check if the car your buying meets UK spec and you should have no problems.
